About Our Goat Milk Soaps
I feel there are several things to consider when purchasing soap. The most important is quality skin care. Quality comes from soap that is not harsh, soap that is made well, soap that leaves the skin in good condition, and soap that is natural (or nearly natural). Coming hand in hand with quality is value. Value starts with the best ingredients, from a soap maker that keeps costs in mind, and soap that you will be happy to spend your hard earned money on.
With that being said, these are the guidelines for my soap:
My soap is made in small batches. By making soap in smaller batches I can monitor the quality and ensure each bar meets the standards that I expect.
My ingredients are fresh and of high quality. I use pure goat milk in our milk based soaps. I do not add water. The more milk in the soap, the more conditioning the soap is.
Because my soaps are made with natural ingredients and hand cut each bar differs slightly. Natural soap colors vary from batch to batch. All of my soaps are a minimum weight of 4 ounces, with an average weight of 4.3 ounces. Soaps that do not meet the desired weight are included in a discount section of the soap store.
I began making soap in 2003. My goal has always been natural and nearly natural soap. Scents and colorants are carefully used. Unfortunately, some scents cannot be reproduced by plant extraction, so some of my soaps do contain fragrances. All of my colorants are natural unless noted otherwise in the soap description.
Talking specifically about goat milk soap, the big question seems to be, what is it so beneficial? The best un-scientific reason I can determine is that it contains lactic acid, which seems to benefit the skin. The balance of natural acids, vitamins, skin softeners, and pure essential oils in goat milk soap also ensures it to have a shelf-life that is nearly indefinite. All of my soaps contain olive oil (for skin conditioning and lather), palm oil (for lather and longer lasting bars), coconut oil (for skin conditioning and lather), and shea butter for additional skin moisturizing.
My soap lathers well, but more specifically it has a soothing glycerin quality. Glycerin helps the skin retain its natural moisture level.
